  • 1 cup glutinous rice
  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled, pitted, and sliced
  • 1 ½ cups coconut milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)


  1. Soak the Sticky Rice:
    • Wash the glutinous rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Then, soak the rice in enough water to cover it for at least 30 minutes or up to several hours. Drain the rice after soaking.
  2. Steam the Sticky Rice:
    • Prepare your steaming setup by lining the steamer basket with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel. Place the soaked and drained sticky rice on top. Steam the rice over boiling water for about 30-40 minutes or until it becomes tender and translucent. Be sure to keep the steamer covered during this process.
  3. Prepare the Coconut Sauce:
    • While the rice is steaming, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan. Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Do not bring it to a boil. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat.
  4. Combine Sticky Rice and Coconut Sauce:
    • Transfer the steamed sticky rice to a mixing bowl. Pour 1 cup of the prepared coconut sauce over the rice. Gently fold and stir the rice to coat it evenly with the coconut sauce. Let it sit for a few minutes to allow the rice to absorb the sauce.
  5. Serve:
    • To serve, place a mound of the coconut-coated sticky rice on a plate or in a shallow bowl. Arrange the sliced mango alongside the rice. Drizzle more of the coconut sauce over the mango and rice. You can also sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds on top for added flavor and texture.
